Inspiration: I may have given up skinny jeans, but not my skinny canvases — admittedly not the easiest proportions to frame. Still, their narrow shape feels like peering through a windowpane, catching a fleeting glimpse of nature. This particular view came from Pelham Bay Park near the running track, where I quite literally stopped in my tracks at the silhouette.

Process: I often play around with backgrounds, no preconceived notions of foregrounds, but wanting to be prepared when inspiration hits me upside the brain. It’s a soothing ritual: layer, blend, wait. Sewing carries a similar rhythm — puncture, pull, repeat — in this case, many, many times. I may still add more needles but at the time, my fatigued fingers vetoed otherwise.
