Details: Acrylic on canvas | 4 × 4 inches

Inspiration: Yes, I realize the bee would be much larger in proportion to reality, so I am flexing my artistic license; the bird being the star of the show. One of the smaller more animated woodpeckers, I think it’s nice to see it capture in a moment of contemplation and admire its distinctive coloring and delightfully wee beak.

Process: I was a bit daunted at first as it’s plumage is so striking and varied with patterns. But I buckled down and was then quite gratified then add a quick signature splash of red at its nape.

Note: This bird’s coloring lends itself to a varied background as well, so this green and a blue version are available at my shop.
