Black-capped Chickadee Duo Winter Berries
Details: Acrylic on canvas | 4 × 4 inches
Inspiration: Hand-painted study of a doting duo. They brighten cold winter mornings with their cheerful songs, no matter the temperature, so a wintry scene felt like the perfect setting for these two.
Process: At this small size, I needed to purchase thinner gauge thread vs. the thicker embroidery on hand for the tiny berries. Bonus, it’s a lot easier to punch through the canvas with smaller needles; my fingers were much happier.
Note: This was a commissioned piece from my mom for some newlyweds, but I have a similar pair available at my shop.
Avian Aside: That cheerful chick-a-dee-dee is more than a catchy name-drop—it’s an alarm system. The more “dees” they add, the greater the perceived threat. Dee dee dee dee dee? Danger!
