Northern Cardinal Portrait
Details: Acrylic on canvas | 4 × 4 inches
Inspiration: One of North America's most recognizable birds—and apparently the mascot of half the sporting world—how could I not paint this handsome character? Comes with an easel or ready to hang frame.
Process: This bird’s feathers just seemed to fly out of the brush, pardon the pun, so I decided to keep its somewhat unkempt tufts to give it a bit of attitude.
Note: Being so popular and striking to paint, I am making more including ones with a blue background, available at my shop.
Avian Side: Even cardinals have bad hair days: they occasionally molt all their head feathers at once, leaving them temporarily bald, much to the alarm of many an amateur birder — and me!!
